Tomorrowland, one of the world’s largest electronic dance music festivals, has officially confirmed its first full-scale Asian edition will be held in Thailand. The festival is scheduled to take place from December 11 to 13 at Wisdom Valley, a scenic location near Pattaya City. This landmark event is part of a five-year plan projected to generate at least 20 billion baht for the local economy.
The Belgium-based organizer has partnered with Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to bring the festival to Wisdom Valley, a 560-acre site situated just west of Pattaya City. This edition will feature six stages and is expected to attract approximately 50,000 attendees, with 60% of visitors anticipated to come from overseas. TAT serves as the main supporter of the event and plans to secure private-sector sponsors to fund the initiative.
While the festival promises significant economic growth, local tourism operators have highlighted the need for logistical preparations. Thanet Supornsahasrungsi, president of Association of the Chon Buri Tourism Federation, noted that traffic management remains a primary concern for an event of this scale. Wisdom Valley area in Khao Mai Kaeo is accessible from North Pattaya via a 20-minute drive on a single carriageway, necessitating careful planning to prevent congestion.
“Pattaya already experiences heavy traffic during peak periods, so authorities should plan ahead to provide convenient transport for attendees,” said Mr. Thanet. He added that because Khao Mai Kaeo may lack the resources to manage such large crowds, Pattaya City should provide support given its experience hosting international events like Pattaya International Fireworks Festival.
Accommodation is another focal point for organizers and local businesses. Mr. Thanet indicated that there is inadequate accommodation in the immediate vicinity of the venue, meaning most attendees will stay in Pattaya hotels. However, he noted that some hotels might be reluctant to offer specific promotions for the festival, as it falls during the high season when occupancy rates are already strong. Hotels catering to long-haul markets often prioritize guests staying for longer durations over those visiting for a three-day festival.
Despite these logistical considerations, the arrival of Tomorrowland represents a major milestone for Thailand’s tourism industry. The event aims to boost the local economy significantly over the next five years, drawing international attention to the region.
