Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has set an ambitious goal for 2026, aiming to generate 3 trillion baht in tourism revenue. This target will be driven by the comprehensive "Amazing 5 Economy" strategy, which is designed to both boost international arrivals and expand domestic tourism, all while prioritizing quality and sustainability.

Despite ongoing global challenges including geopolitical tensions, increased competition, and domestic factors like currency strength and household debt TAT remains confident. In 2025, Thailand welcomed 32.97 million international visitors, although there was a 7.23% decline in some short-haul markets such as China and Malaysia. However, this was offset by a significant increase from long-haul markets, setting records for arrivals from Europe, America, the Middle East, and Africa, particularly from the UK and US, which both exceeded 1 million visitors for the first time. Domestic tourism also showed resilience with 202 million trips, a 2.7% rise from the previous year.
Looking ahead, TAT is targeting 36.7 million international tourists and 210 million domestic trips in 2026. Revenue growth projections are set at 11% from foreign tourism and 4% from the domestic market, with THB 2 trillion expected from international segments and THB 1 trillion from local travelers.
The “Amazing 5 Economy” Strategy
TAT’s strategy focuses on five interlinked pillars designed to transform Thailand’s tourism industry for long-term, sustainable growth:
- Life Economy: Positioning Thailand as a world-class hub for wellness and medical tourism, encapsulated by the “Healing is the New Luxury” campaign.
- Sub-Culture Economy: Tapping into high-potential niche markets such as film tourism, sporting events, yacht and cruise tourism, and luxury private jet travelers.
- Night Economy: Promoting vibrant and creative nighttime activities not only in major cities, but also in secondary towns to boost all-round economic activity.
- Circular Economy: Emphasizing responsible tourism by adopting the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, and encouraging resource-efficient practices throughout the industry, with special focus on secondary cities.
- Platform Economy: Enhancing digital and online tourism experiences, integrating e-commerce and seamless payment platforms for travelers.
Strategic Initiatives and Key Campaigns

To reinforce the “Amazing 5 Economy,” TAT is rolling out several flagship initiatives:
- Strengthening “Amazing Thailand” Brand: Highlighting global standards in safety and hygiene to instill confidence among visitors.
- Premium Destinations and Experiences: Elevating select destinations and crafting high-end tourism products under the 5-Economy pillars.
- Partnerships and Competitiveness: Developing “Airline Focus Partnerships” to enhance connectivity and ease of travel.
- International and Domestic Campaigns: The “Healing is the New Luxury” marketing campaign targets global travelers seeking wellness, while “Instant Joy, Thai Travel” is focused on domestic tourists, promoting unique experiences and film locations.
- Year-Round Tourism and Events: Increasing the frequency and quality of festivals, sporting events, and cultural showcases from Krabi to Chiang Mai to spread tourism benefits more evenly year-round.
- Sustainability Projects: Expanding programs like STGs STAR Plus, CF Hotels, Trusted Thailand, and the Thailand Tourism Awards to foster sustainable best practices among operators.
Focus on Quality, Inclusion, and Sustainability

TAT’s new approach goes beyond simply increasing visitor numbers; it’s about attracting high-value tourists, encouraging longer stays, and supporting meaningful travel experiences. The authority is especially focused on:
- Expanding long-haul markets with unique, year-round “NIYOM” experiences and inclusive hospitality.
- Reinventing short-haul offerings and introducing new secondary destinations.
- Managing risks and opportunities to balance visitor flows and guarantee sustainable growth across all regions.
With the “Amazing 5 Economy” at its core, Thailand’s tourism strategy for 2026 is built on innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability. Through ambitious revenue goals, a sharpened focus on quality experiences, and integrated global and domestic campaigns, TAT aims to position Thailand as a top, future-ready destination for travelers from all walks of life.
