Living in Kathu offers a nice balance between some solid local conveniences and decent safety. There’s a good range of restaurants and you'll find plenty of malls nearby if you're into shopping or just grabbing everyday stuff. The roads around are quite good which makes getting around by car pretty painless compared to other parts of Phuket, and usually, it feels pretty calm once the evening sets in.

Although there are places to eat, dining options can feel a bit limited if you prefer diverse or higher-end food. I notice the internet connection jumps in and out more than I’d like which is a bit frustrating while working from home. Another downside is the lack of green spaces – I tend to miss having nearby parks or natural spots for regular walks or jogs. Plus, it’s not very bike-friendly at all, so getting around on two wheels isn’t your best bet here.

The charm of Kathu truly shines through its balance! I appreciate both its convenient spots for dinner or night out while knowing that I can retreat to a quieter side when I’m in need of stillness. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an active yet serene place to settle down or send down roots.

While Kathu has lots of lively options, if you're the kind of person who thrives exclusively on downtown conveniences, some days you might miss a buzzier shopping scene straight outside your door. The selection for shopping might not suit everyone’s expectations, especially if you're trigger-happy on retail therapy.
